Singles round-up: Jhené Aiko, Kylie Minogue

Jhené Aiko - Comfort Inn Ending (freestyle)
We kinda hailed Jhené Aiko as the saviour of female R&B, her delicious and intelligent cuts giving us chills and whatnot (cf. Stranger, particularly this NGUZUNGUZU remix). And then she went quiet, i.e. got signed by a label and started to make a proper album and all that shite. Still, that spark we saw is still well and truly alive - freestyle isn't really a word you associate with R&B/soul, but Aiko goes for it in this ad-lib confessional over a beat made for LP interludes. Still packing more of a punch than most basic bitches, it seems.

Kylie Minogue - Skirt
Kylie's a strange one. While PressPLAY has never been a big fan of this rainbow flag of the pop world (she has her moments, but that's about it), every so often she comes up with something bloody brilliant. We're not ashamed to love Timebomb, and now following her signing to Roc Nation, Skirt comes along as a proper way of getting her international. Kylie's always been 85% good production, and that's where this The-Dream co-write properly excels. It's grotty, it's mad, it's everything we love in a genre-busting pop song. Happy birthday, Ms Minogue.
