Review: Slow Knights - Cosmos
Now this is really quite special. We'll admit we've never been the biggest fans of Scissor Sisters, so the thought of stalwart member Del Marquis's offshoot project didn't excite us too much. But ooh wee, his Slow Knights collective is beyond wonderful.
Right from the lead single Shame, it's clear that Cosmos is a glorious amalgamation of 80s synthpop and 90s house - think Azari & III and Grace Jones by way of Horse Meat Disco. The vocals (coming in forms as varied as Bright Light Bright Light and Chrissi Poland) fit the melodies perfectly; from Kingdom to Ghost, there isn't a single flabby moment or misfire throughout.
The beauty of Cosmos is that it still feels fresh in a slowly-saturating genre, a triumph indebted to the sensibilities and curation of Marquis - by the time Caught up in the Rhythm comes along, you're already there. Pure arms-aloft joy.
