LivePLAY: Charli XCX, Old Blue Last, London 17/04/13

When you try to argue that the XCX in your name should stand for xrated c*nt xrated, you know you've got a firecracker on your hand. And 20 year-old Charlotte Aitchison, as we opined in our review of her stellar debut True Romance, is certainly just that.

She bounds on the stage with a cyberpunk-meets-Battle Royale look, delivering show opener You're The One with disarming ease. But that's when the girl shifts gears and performs with such energy that we had to stop ourselves rushing the stage to join her - songs like You (Ha Ha Ha) are delivered with fuck-you gusto, while Nuclear Seasons felt like it could barely be contained in the walls of an East London hovel.

If anything let her down tonight, it was the crowd. Before drawing her (admittedly short) set to a close with the stonking Icona Pop collaboration, I Love It, Charli reveals how nervous performing in this city makes her. And she's right - that girl deserved a right old rave-up, and London disappointed her big-time.
