PressPLAYLIST: The Week in Music

It's the Grammys tonight - no one has quite clocked that they have a million categories, so winning one is about as special as a toy from a Kinder Surprise. Of course, our PressPLAYLIST is nothing like that - here's the cream of the week's music blaring from our HQ.

Jakwob - Fade (ft Maiday)
British super-producer Jakwob returns with a loud holler back to Massive Attack. Fade courses along as chilled electronica, mixing in Maiday for the best sort of 90s chorus imaginable. Emeli Sandé must be kicking herself.

Adam Green & Binki Shapiro - Nighttime Stopped Bleeding
Let's be honest - Moldy Peaches were one of those bands that everyone pretended to like but no one actually did. Having said that, former member Adam Green has teamed up with pop songstress Binki Shapiro (great name, love) for a moody album of folk-blues tête-à-tête. We haven't seen companions this compatible, or chemistry this crackling, since Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan.

Kitty (Pryde) - DEAD ISLAND
It's rare for us to feature the same artist and the same album on two consecutive PressPLAYLISTs, but Kitty's mixtape DAISY Rage just keeps on giving. This week we're spinning DEAD ISLAND, so chock-full of quotes that it's hard to even begin dissecting it. "Trying to discern if I'm the wonder kid or underdog," she raps. This Kitty's in the enviable position of being both.

Feathers - Land of the Innocent
Let's clear this up now - Feathers are as much Haim as Haim are Eternal. There's not a single note in common besides the fact that we have a group of young white females harmonising like their life depended on it. Land of the Innocent is brooding electronic pop with pounding production, and well worth your time.

Strange Talk - Cast Away
Ending the week for us is the bouncy synth-pop of Strange Talk (of Climbing Walls fame). While the rest of the album is a bit too try-hard for our taste, Cast Away is wonderfully infectious. File next to the Donkeyboy school of super happy fun times.
