One Reason of Many as to Why we like the Tegan & Sara Album

On the tube this morning we thought of another reason why we like Hearthrob. We already knew it reminded us of (among others) Fleetwood Mac, fellow sisters-in-a-band Heathers, Empire of the Sun, and even Abba.

Today we realised that as listening to Fleetwood and Abba give us a great insight into the real-life heartbreakery within their respective camps, the fact that Tegan and Sara are twin sisters make for another intruiging listen. We don't really know whether they are singing to their own respective girlfriends, on behalf of each other to the other's exes, or even to each other. Maybe they even both went out with the same bird at the same time and that bird stung them both as hard.

Furthermore, in a time when the themes and targets of many female pop stars' songs are played out so blatently and SO literally, the ambiguity of who the songs on Heartthrob are targetted at help to make it exciting, refreshing and weirdly comfortable to listen to.
