For anyone inclined toward folk that isn't Cotton Eyed Joe or Mumford & Sons (as hard as it is to argue which of the two is worse), Anais Mitchell is perhaps the finest songwriter and the best thing to happen to the genre since the accordion; if you don't believe us, just ask Bon Iver.
After the horrendously underrated folk-operas Hadestown and Young Man in America, Mitchell is back with collaborator Jefferson Hamer to re-interpret old English folk choons with nary a Lakeman brother in sight. Great if you're a fan of the genre, and a good entry point even if you don't live with a piece of straw in your mouth.
